If Saniderm, Derm Shield, or Tegaderm was used
Leave the wrap on for up to five days unless it peels back and exposes the tattoo, begins to leak, or causes a rash around the bandage. An ink-sac under the wrap can be normal. Do not poke or pop it.
When the wrap is removed, wash thoroughly with unscented antibacterial soap two to three times a day. Apply tattoo aftercare product or unscented lotion with clean hands as needed.
If no Saniderm was used
Leave the original bandage on for two to three hours. Remove it, wash gently but thoroughly with unscented antibacterial soap, pat dry, air dry, and re-bandage with no ointment until morning if directed.
Use a very thin layer of Aquaphor or preferred tattoo salve during the first week if recommended. Once peeling starts, switch to unscented moisturizing lotion. Do not peel skin; let it fall naturally.
Avoid while healing
- Do not submerge the tattoo.
- Avoid sun exposure while healing.
- Do not pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin.
- Do not use scented products unless your artist approves them.
Contact the shop or your artist directly if you have questions or concerns. Consult a health care practitioner at the first sign of infection or allergic reaction.
